West Ham United are reportedly planning a summer swoop for Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

The 26-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular since the arrival of Erik ten Hag, starting just 11 of his 25 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Fred have all been preferred ahead of McTominay in centre-midfield, and competition for places in the middle of the pitch has recently increased following the January loan signing of Marcel Sabitzer and the emergence of 17-year-old academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo.

Recent reports have suggested that McTominay is one of a number of first-team players who Man United are prepared to offload in the summer to balance their books.

Newcastle United are understood to have held talks with the Red Devils over a proposed summer move for the Scotland International.

However, the Magpies could face competition for McTominay's signature, as Football Insider reports that West Ham have identified the 6ft 4in midfielder as one of their targets ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

The report adds that Man United are 'confident' that they can sell McTominay for £25m due to his experience in the Premier League.

West Ham are said to be drawing up a list of midfield targets as it is widely expected that in-demand captain Declan Rice will soon leave the London Stadium.

Rice has less than 18 months remaining on his Hammers contract and has been linked with a host of top Premier League clubs including Man United, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.

West Ham's transfer business will likely depend on whether they can avoid relegation from the Premier League, with David Moyes's side currently sitting 18th in the table, albeit just one point adrift from safety with 15 games still remaining.

McTominay, who is under contract at Old Trafford until June 2025, joined Man United's academy at the age of five before working his way through the youth ranks and making his professional debut in May 2017.

The midfielder has since made a total of 195 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing five assists, and has gained experience in both the Champions League and Europa League.

Meanwhile, West Ham are also understood to have identified Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic as a possible replacement for Rice this summer, while Man City's Kalvin Phillips has also been linked with a switch to the London Stadium. body check tags ::
