Neither Mexico nor Gabon were able to find the net during the opening 45 minutes of the Olympic encounter at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry this afternoon.
The Mexicans had the better of the goalscoring chances, but a combination of wayward finishing and Gabon goalkeeper Didier Ovondo kept the score level.
The best opportunity fell to Mexico striker Marco Fabian, who struck straight at Ovondo from the edge of the area. When the ball was crossed back in, Fabian's striking partner Miguel Ponce headed wide of the target from close range.
Gabon posed little in the way of an attacking threat during the opening 45 minutes, with their only shot of note coming towards the end of the half when Franck Engonga's goalbound effort was blocked.
Both teams drew their opening matches of the tournament.
