Montenegro are within a point of a playoff place in Group G after winning away to Moldova.
The visitors could have been ahead inside three minutes, but Fatos Beciraj managed to fire wide of Ilie Cebanu's goal.
However, Montenegro did take the lead soon after when former Manchester City defender Stefan Savic rushed in at the far post to divert Stevan Jovetic's cross-cum-shot into the net.
Cebanu kept his side in the game after saving an effort from Adam Marusic on the half-hour mark.
The Montenegrins did manage to double their advantage midway through the second half as Beciraj's shot beat the Moldovan keeper, although replays suggest that his strike took a deflection en route.
Moldova nearly pulled a goal back through Petru Racu late on, but Vukasin Poleksic was on hand to deny the forward as Montenegro moved within a point of third-placed Sweden.
