Montpellier HSC have overcome Caen in their Ligue 1 clash as Hilton's fifth-minute strike saw them pick up all three points at the Stade de la Mosson.
The hosts began the game brightly and their quick start was immediately rewarded as an in-swinging corner was headed in at the near-post by the home side's skipper, giving Montpellier the early advantage.
Lucas Barrios had a good chance to double the hosts' lead, but his shot in the centre of the box flew over.
Caen offered little chances to get themselves back into the game, with the torrential conditions possibly playing a part in the lacklustre attacking display.
The result moves Montpellier up to seventh in the table, keeping them in the hunt for a potential Europa League place.
Caen stay in 13th, only three points above the relegation zone.
