Morecambe chairman Peter McGuigan has announced that the League Two club is up for sale.
In a statement, the Shrimps' majority shareholder said that the "time is right" for someone else to take charge of the club's affairs.
McGuigan said: "Having been chairman for 16 years, I feel the time is right for a new owner to take the club forward and build on a strong platform that exists today.
"The club moved into a new, purpose-built wholly-owned stadium in August 2010 and is virtually debt-free. There is an opportunity to develop the ground further with a new office block, as well as a hotel adjacent to the stadium.
"These exciting developments will assist in securing the long-term financial viability of the club."
Morecambe are 18th in League Two, 11 points above the relegation zone.
