Sports Mole previews Monday's League One clash between Morecambe and Portsmouth, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Morecambe will be looking to claim back-to-back wins when they play host to a Portsmouth side who have won their last two games to the Mazuma Stadium on Monday.

The hosts are currently three points clear of the relegation zone, while Pompey enter the contest in ninth position.

Match preview

Morecambe's bid to remain in League One has received a major boost in recent weeks, with their last four matches yielding three victories.

The latest of those wins took place at The Valley on Friday, which saw the Shrimps emerge victorious from a five-goal thriller against Charlton Athletic.

Cole Stockton and Arthur Gnahoua grabbed a goal apiece in the first half to give Morecambe a two-goal lead at the break before Jayden Stockley halved the deficit eight minutes after the restart.

However, the two-goal cushion was reestablished six minutes later when Gnahoua netted his second goal of the game, and although Chuks Aneke pulled one back, the Shrimps held firm to claim all three points.

Morecambe cannot afford to rest on their laurels despite their recent run of positive results, with the Shrimps just three points above the drop zone, although they will believe that they can pick up at least a point on Monday after losing just one of their last seven league games.

As for Portsmouth, they enter the contest off the back of consecutive victories, with Danny Cowley's side looking to finish the season in style.

A comprehensive 3-0 win over Rotherham United ended a five-match winless run before Pompey squeezed past Lincoln City courtesy of a 3-2 scoreline.

George Hirst opened the scoring in the 50th minute, dispatching his spot-kick past Jordan Wright, before Michael Jacobs doubled Pompey's advantage with a superb free kick.

A comfortable afternoon turned tricky when Lincoln fought back thanks to goals from Teddy Bishop and Ben House, but Ronan Curtis ensured that Portsmouth would claim all three points, tapping home from close range in the 82nd minute.

Despite collecting maximum points from their last two games, Pompey are still 10 points adrift of the playoffs, and though hopes of a top-six finish have effectively dissipated, Cowley will be challenging his team to round off the campaign with a flurry of positive results.

Team News

After winning on their travels on Friday, Morecambe are expected to name an unchanged lineup.

That would mean that Greg Leigh will continue at right-back after starting the last two games for the Shrimps.

Stockton is the current League One top scorer, and he will be aiming to score in a fifth consecutive game when he features in the Morecambe front line on Monday.

Portsmouth, meanwhile, could be without Joe Morrell after the Welsh international was forced off in the 12th minute of Friday's contest.

Louis Thompson left the action 20 minutes from time on Friday due to a calf issue and the 27-year-old is rated doubtful for the trip to Morecambe.

After coming off the bench to score the winner against Lincoln, Curtis could be given a starting place for Monday's contest.

Morecambe possible starting lineup:
Carson; Leigh, Bennett, Bedeau, Gibson; Wildig, Fane, Phillips; Connolly, Gnahoua, Stockton

Portsmouth possible starting lineup:
Bazunu; Carter, Raggett, Robertson, Ogilvie; Harness, Tunnicliffe, Williams, Jacobs; Hirst, Curtis

We say: Morecambe 2-2 Portsmouth

Both teams have been among the goals in recent games, and we expect that to continue on Monday, but with both sides in fine form, we think that it may be tricky for either team to come out on top.
