An impressive away victory from Hibernian at Fir Park has allowed Pat Fenlon's side to move to second in the Scottish Premier League.

Despite controlling the contest for long periods, Motherwell were eventually comfortably beaten thanks to goals from David Wotherspoon, Daniel Handling and a brace from Leigh Griffiths.

Was the result fair?

The scoreline is certainly harsh on Motherwell but Pat Fenlon will claim that his Hibernian side deserved the three points. Stuart McCall will be unhappy with the two penalty decisions against his side but they were simply not good enough in attacking areas.

Motherwell's performance

McCall's team looked comfortable in the first half but they failed to score while they were the better side. Michael Higdon's penalty miss was crucial in the context of the match, especially as Griffiths was able to put the result beyond doubt just moments later.

Hibernian's performance

Hibs produced a classic away performance on what looked like a difficult fixture earlier this evening. Motherwell fans will argue that the scoreline flatters Fenlon's men but Hibernian's quality in attack was clear throughout the contest.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Leigh Griffiths: It looks like an obvious decision considering the striker's two goals on the night but there was much more to the 22-year-old's display. His movement and skill on the ball frightened the Motherwell defence from the first whistle and he stood out during an average Hibernian performance in the first half.

Referee's performance

Stevie O'Reilly will definitely have better nights in the middle during his career. The man in black was not helped by his assistant in the first half when Steven Hammell was denied a goal despite his header crossing the line. However, his decision to give Hibernian a second penalty when Wotherspoon was brought down outside the area was poor and he was cheered off the pitch by Motherwell fans following an injury to his calf.

Motherwell: The Steelmen travel to high-flying St Johnstone next week when McCall will be hoping his side can put Friday's disappointment behind them at McDiarmid Park.

Hibernian: Fenlon's side welcome St Mirren to Easter Road next Saturday as they look to reduce the gap between themselves and Celtic at the top of the table.
