Sports Mole previews Saturday's Scottish Premiership clash between Motherwell and Aberdeen, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

After six games in a row without a victory, Aberdeen will travel to Fir Park in a bid to get their season back on track, where a victory could put them back into the top half of the table.

However, the two teams competed against each other last weekend and it was Motherwell who came out on top, knocking the Dons out of the Scottish Cup.

Match preview

Motherwell may have scored a victory over Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup, but they are without a victory in the league in their previous six matches, with their last win taking place on Boxing Day.

Graham Alexander's squad will take confidence from the fact that the Dons are one of the weakest teams on the road this season, as the club have only won twice in away fixtures.

The Steelmen were comfortably defeated in their most recent outing in the Scottish Premiership, being beaten 2-0 by Dundee United, despite the fact they dominated the possession.

Motherwell won both of their previous matches in the league this season, with Aberdeen not being able to find the back of the net on either of those occasions, which is something that they will be hoping to continue.

The club could move into fourth place with a win, depending on other results, and the Steelmen shall be aiming to put pressure on those above them.

Aberdeen will be out for revenge on Saturday after being beaten by Motherwell last weekend in the Scottish Cup fifth round, despite the fact that Christian Ramirez scored in the third minute.

The Steelmen fought back into the match with Kevin van Veen and Connor Shields finding the back of the net before the first half was over, which led to them securing the 2-1 victory.

They followed this up with a 1-1 draw against St Johnstone in midweek, which became the sixth match in a row without a victory for the Dons, who are still looking for a permanent manager.

The Dons have slipped down to eighth in the table due to recent performances, and they now only sit nine points above the relegation zone, adding some extra pressure onto each match.

However, a victory could end up seeing them move back into the top half of the table depending on other results in the league, with very few points separating the middle of the division.

Team News

Mark O'Hara returned to the Motherwell team for the first time since November last weekend, being a major boost to the squad, and he could be in line for another start.

Considering that team was capable of knocking Aberdeen out of the Scottish Cup, Alexander could end up going with the same lineup, with Shields leading the attack.

Barry Bobson will likely remain the interim manager for the Dons this weekend, and he will continue to search for his first victory in charge of the club following the sacking of Stephen Glass.

Ross McCrorie was unavailable in midweek due to injury, and that is likely to be the case again on Saturday, but the squad was boosted by the return of Joe Lewis in goal, who overcame his illness.

Scott Brown also had to come off injured in the most recent fixture, which could lead to a change in the heart of the midfield, with Funso Ojo being an option that could be relied upon instead.

Motherwell possible starting lineup:
Kelly; Ojala, Johansen, Mugabi, Carroll; Donnelly, O'Hara, Goss; Efford, Van Veen, Shields

Aberdeen possible starting lineup:
Lewis; Ramsay, Gallagher, Bates, McKenzie; Barron, Ojo; Kennedy, Ferguson, Hayes; Ramirez

We say: Motherwell 2-0 Aberdeen

Both teams are very much out of form when it comes to their Scottish Premiership performances, which is something they will be wanting to put right at the weekend.

However, Aberdeen are in a tough spot without a manager, and considering the fact Motherwell have already beaten them three times this season, the hosts should be able to pick up another victory here.
