Borek Dockal scored the only goal of the first half to give the Czech Republic a 1-0 lead over the Netherlands in Group A of Euro 2016 qualifying.
It was a frustrating start to the match for the Dutch visitors as they struggled to trouble a stubborn Czech defence, despite dominating possession from the first whistle.
The hosts took the lead against the run of play in the 22nd minute as a long ball into the box was controlled by David Lafata, whose knock back allowed Dockal to fire in a half-volley off the inside of the post.
Daley Blind created an opportunity for the Netherlands to equalise just moments later, but Georginio Wijnaldum failed to convert his teammate's cross as his poor touch let him down while in plenty of space inside the box.
Petr Cech was forced to make a save with his foot from Daryl Janmaat's cross when Robin van Persie was unable to add what should have been the finishing touch at the near post.
A change was made before the break as Guus Hiddink abandoned the 3-5-2 formation, and the visitors were almost level when Memphis Depay forced Cech to push a powerful strike over the crossbar.
