Former Netherlands striker Patrick Kluivert has revealed that he suffered racist abuse during his time in the Premier League.
Kluivert spent a season with Newcastle United eight years ago and said that he had to endure racist chanting throughout his career, including his spell in England.
He told Goal.com : "Yes as a player I had it absolutely but as long as you don't react and give them your attention then it will probably be less effective.
"If you give them attention they think they are important and that can be a negative towards them. Wherever I played I had it, as a player, it was not big but in every part of the world you have some people who are active in racism. In England as well, yes for sure.
"Well if you had the ball they were making monkey sounds or something like that but I was a player and it didn't really affect me but it is not nice to hear it."
The 36-year-old enjoyed a glittering career for club and country, starring at Ajax and Barcelona plus becoming his country's record goalscorer.
