Georginio Wijnaldum has praised the Netherlands for showing their resilience in the final game of their World Cup campaign in Brazil.
Louis van Gaal's side eased to a 3-0 win over the hosts on Saturday to clinch third spot, and Wijnaldum believes that it was crucial for the team to bounce back after failing to secure a second successive spot in the final.
"The most beautiful was our resilience," the 23-year-old told members of the media. "We were knocked out but we came back and finished third.
"We wanted to close it out well."
Wijnaldum completed the scoring in Brasilia with just his second international goal.
