Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren has revealed that striker Emmanuel Riviere may have to undergo surgery in order to solve a knee problem.
The Frenchman suffered the blow during a training session in Milwaukee last month and was subsequently sent home from the team's pre-season tour in the United States.
"I think Manu Riviere's knee was painful after training," McClaren told The Chronicle. "So he might have to have surgery. We are investigating that."
Riviere scored just one goal in the Premier League last season in 23 appearances.
