Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor has predicted that manager Alan Pardew will field a strong side for Wednesday's Capital One Cup tie with Manchester City.
The Magpies, who have never won the competition, welcome City to St James' Park in the fourth round.
When asked if Pardew is likely to name a positive starting lineup, Taylor told the Evening Chronicle: "I'm sure that is what the manager will do. We want to do well in that.
"We talked about it at the start of the season and we want to do well in the cups.
"We have to play well as a team and hopefully get the stroke of luck we need too."
Newcastle were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United in the third round of last season's tournament.
