Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has stated that the team must improve after being knocked out of the League Cup by Sheffield Wednesday.
The Championship side left St James' Park with a win and a place in the fourth round courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Steve McClaren's side on Wednesday evening.
The defeat was Newcastle's fourth in a row in all competitions, and Krul has said that the players have to take responsibility for the slump in form.
"We need to be better than that, as a team and individually," the Dutchman told Newcastle's official website.
"Everybody has to look at themselves in the mirror and ask if they gave everything. If not, they have to start straight away, because what we are doing at the moment is really not good enough.
"A couple of players put in good performances but there were also some really bad ones. The team we put out was more than good enough to win this game, and they didn't really trouble us."
Newcastle return to Premier League action when they host Chelsea on Saturday.
