Shola Ameobi has no doubts that the mood in the Newcastle United camp is better this season having been below-par last term.
Several reports speculated towards the end of the last campaign that there were divisions in the dressing room, with certain players questioning the talent and commitment of their teammates.
However, Ameobi says that their team spirit is now stronger than ever and can help Newcastle recover from losing 2-1 to local rivals Sunderland on Sunday.
"It is great now we have got this game to focus on," Ameobi told reporters. "We have to put the derby to bed, regardless of how much it is hurting, and move on. The mood of the camp last season wasn't great and we weren't on a good run at the time.
"I think this time around we are coming at it in a totally different mindset as a team. As a team we know when we get it right, we are a match for anyone.
"The problem for us this season is that consistency. That's the most frustrating thing for us as players. It's trying to get a right balance in the team and the manager is working very hard to get that."
