Jonas Gutierrez has insisted that the importance of the Wear-Tyne derby is not lost on the Newcastle United squad.
Alan Pardew's men visit Sunderland next Sunday and Gutierrez believes that it is the result and not the style of football that will please the club's fans.
The 29-year-old told the Evening Chronicle: "I understand what it means. It does not matter if you play well or the team plays fantastic football.
"The fans will want the three points. All of the players feel the same.
"We know they will put us under pressure - as will their fans. So it will be really important to be really focused."
The Magpies are currently 10th in the Premier League while their local rivals are three places further down the table.
