Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren has backed new signing Chancel Mbemba to be a success with the club's supporters.
The defender, 20, joined the Magpies from Anderlecht on Thursday for a reported fee of around £8.5m.
McClaren believes that the DR Congo international is the type of player that the Geordie faithful will instantly take to.
"We are delighted that Chancel is now a Newcastle United player after it took a little longer than we had hoped," he told the club's official website.
"He is a proven performer at the highest level, he's powerful, combative and will add quality to our defence. He also has an eye for goal which is an extra asset for us. I'm sure our supporters will take to him very quickly. He's the sort of player fans will enjoy watching."
Newcastle play their final pre-season game on Saturday when they host Borussia Monchengladbach, but Mbemba will not be available to make his debut.
