Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew does not believe that Yohan Cabaye sustained a serious injury in the Magpies' 1-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers this afternoon.
The Frenchman left the field on a stretcher following a challenge with Hoops midfielder Shaun Derry.
However, Pardew has revealed that club doctors have analysed the ankle knock and cleared Cabaye of any ligament damage.
"Yohan was upset. He felt it was probably a little bit over-exuberant, but the doctor thinks he is going to be okay," he said.
Pardew continued: "It was a strong challenge, but Shaun Derry is a player who makes strong challenges. The referee was right on top of it.
"I thought it was borderline yellow/red, but I think probably it was a yellow. He seemed to get the ball."
Leon Best's solo effort was enough to earn Newcastle the three points and lift them above Liverpool into sixth in the Premier League.
