Alan Pardew: 'Papiss Cisse defied medics to play'

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew reveals that striker Papiss Cisse should not have featured for the Magpies today after failing to fully recover from a long-term injury.

Alan Pardew has praised "remarkable" striker Papiss Cisse for defying medical orders to fire Newcastle United to a 2-2 draw against Hull City.

The Senegal international was introduced 20 minutes from time at St James' Park in what was his first appearance for the Magpies since March.

However, Cisse proved the difference for Newcastle with his brace rescuing them a point against a Hull side who had initially held a two-goal lead.

"He really shouldn't be on the pitch, which is a real tribute to my staff to get him in condition because he's only trained for four days," talkSPORT quotes Pardew as saying.

"At this level that's remarkable. We're really pleased to have him back. My medical staff didn't agree that he should be included today. But when you are experienced - myself and [assistant manager] John [Carver] looked at each other on Thursday, I think it was, and your eye tells you sometimes that the player is fresh, he's bright.

"Of course he's not ready for 90 minutes, but he knows how to carry the jersey."

The point lifts Newcastle off the foot of the table into 18th place.
