Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has declared that Papiss Cisse's goal against Southampton reminded him a famous strike from Toon legend Alan Shearer.
Cisse struck a looping volley from range to help Newcastle earn an important 4-2 win over Southampton yesterday.
Pardew revealed that Cisse's effort brought back memories of Shearer's thunderous strike from distance against Everton in 2002.
The Magpies manager also praised Cisse's ability to score from any angle after his seventh Premier League goal of the campaign.
He told The Sun: "It was a wonder goal, an Alan Shearer-type moment from Cisse.
"That will certainly get in his top 10. It reminded me of that goal from Alan many years ago here, that dipping volley.
"As soon as he hit it you sensed that it was in. And for sure, the net ripples. He's got that in him, he can get all types of goals. But that was a really great one today."
Goals from Cisse, Yohan Cabaye and Moussa Sissoko helped the Magpies move up to 14th place in the table and six points clear of the relegation zone.
