Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has claimed that midfielder Yohan Cabaye has all the credentials to lead the Magpies as captain.
The Frenchman's position at the club looked in doubt during the summer transfer window following interest from Premier League rivals Arsenal.
Following a bid, the midfielder was kept out of the squad during the early stages of the season due to his mindset, but has since moved back into the first team.
"I don't think he needs to [keep performing to win over the supporters] in the fans' eyes," the Northern Echo quotes Pardew as saying.
"We are over that, but, again, with the captaincy I thought `hmm, not quite right just yet' but I am sure he will be captain of this club at some point going forward."
Fabricio Coloccini, who has faced a spell on the sidelines with injury, currently dons the captain's armband.
