Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has revealed that he will hold discussions with midfielder Yohan Cabaye in the coming days to ensure that he is in the right frame of mind for the season.

The Frenchman will remain a Magpies player until at least January following rejected interest from Arsenal in the final few weeks of the summer transfer window.

During the speculation, Cabaye was dropped from the team, but returned for last weekend's 1-0 win over Fulham.

"It was important to get him out there on Saturday, it will make it easier to move on although there is a lot of talking to be done between now and Aston Villa," Sky Sports News quotes Pardew as saying. "We will speak with Yohan and with his representatives to make sure that we go forward hand-in-hand."

The 27-year-old moved to St James' Park from Lille in 2011.
