Alan Pardew has warned his Newcastle United players not to rest on their laurels after picking up their first Premier League win of the season against Leicester City this afternoon.
Gabriel Obertan struck a 71st-minute winner at St James's Park as United won 1-0 to end a run of seven league games without a victory.
However, Newcastle remain 18th in the table and Pardew says that there is still plenty of work to be done to reverse the damage of their early-season woes.
"There was no corner to be turned really. We need to win more games, and today was about grinding it out," he told Sky Sports News.
"It is important that we take a step forward now, the job is not done and we need to get ourselves out of a position that we shouldn't be in."
Pardew and his side travel to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham Hotspur next Sunday.
