Newcastle United attacker Andros Townsend has said that his team "showed great character" to secure a point in a 1-1 draw with Manchester City in the Premier League on Tuesday night.
Sergio Aguero sent Man City into a 14th-minute lead at St James' Park, but Vurnon Anita equalised just past the 30-minute mark as Newcastle boosted their survival hopes.
Townsend, who joined the Magpies from Tottenham Hotspur in January, has admitted that his team were desperate to claim a win, but was pleased with the point.
"I think both teams had chances. It is a point and we are still alive and in there with a chance. Today we showed great character... we would have liked the win, but we are still fighting," Townsend told Sky Sports News.
The result has left Newcastle in 19th position - two points behind 17th-placed Norwich City with four games left.
