Queens Park Rangers came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory over Newcastle United this afternoon.

Emmanuel Riviere gave the Magpies the lead in the first half, but Matt Phillips headed in the equaliser for the R's shortly after the break.

Leroy Fer then smashed a long-range effort into the top corner to seal the points for QPR and leave Newcastle sweating on their place in the top flight.

QPR:

Goal

Robert Green: Couldn't have done too much about the opening goal which was fortunately scored by Riviere. Had to be replaced just past the half-hour mark after colliding with Barton and was left needing stitches. (6/10)

Defence

Steven Caulker: Gave away the ball far too cheaply and struggled during the first half. He failed to emerge after the break, with Yun coming on to take his place. (5/10)

Clint Hill: Was left exposed down his flank in the first half, with Cabella and Ayoze having some joy against him. However, he improved after the break and made a vital block to deny Cisse from scoring late on. (6/10)

Richard Dunne: Made a mess of the first goal by allowing Riviere to get in behind him far too easily, but was a rock in the second half as Newcastle put his side under heavy pressure. (7/10)

Nedum Onuoha: Fared well down the right and was not overly troubled. Was unable to get forward too much but did his defensive duties well. (6/10)

Midfield

Karl Henry: Did not see too much of the ball in the centre of the pitch, but he kept things ticking over for QPR and worked hard throughout the match. (6/10)

Joey Barton: Typically robust display from the midfielder, who put in a number of strong challenges. Helped his team to fight back in the second half and was always reliable on the ball. (7/10)

Junior Hoilett: The Canadian really struggled to get into the match and he made little impact in the first half. His manager must also been unimpressed, as he was taken off at the break. (5/10)

Leroy Fer: Scored with a stunning strike from long range to win the match. It was not his only contribution, as he won a number of tackles and was dominant in the air throughout. (7/10)

Matt Phillips: Got QPR back into the game with a fine header at the back post. He almost grabbed a third goal with an effort that he blazed over from close range and caused plenty of problems for the Newcastle defence. (7/10)

Attack

Charlie Austin: Fine display from QPR's player of the season. The striker may not have found the net, but he set up the first for Phillips and was a constant menace for the visitors, who were unable to deal with his pace. (8/10)

Substitutes

Alex McCarthy: Came on to replace the injured Green and commanded his area well. (6/10)

Yun Suk-Young: Replaced Caulker at half time and helped to shore up the defence. (6/10)

Reece Grego-Cox: Was also introduced at half time and provided a few promising moments. (6/10)

NEWCASTLE:

Goal

Tim Krul: He could have organised his defence better when Phillips scored QPR's first goal, but he had no chance of saving Fer's strike, which flew into the top corner. (6/10)

Defence

Daryl Janmaat: Tried his best to get forward whenever possible and also made a number of decent interceptions at the back. (6/10)

Fabricio Coloccini: Did not have much to do in the first half, but he came under intense pressure after the break. He struggled to deal with the threat of Austin and was left exposed for the equalising goal. (6/10)

Paul Dummett: Poor display from the defender, who could not cope with the pace of the QPR attack. He allowed Austin in behind on a number of occasions and looked nervous throughout. (5/10)

Jonas Gutierrez: The Argentine looked a threat going forward for his team, but he was exposed down his flank in the second half and looked slightly out of place at left-back. (6/10)

Midfield

Ryan Taylor: Curled a decent free kick wide in the first half and made a number of important challenges in the middle of the pitch. He was replaced by Aarons as Newcastle searched for a way back into the game. (6/10)

Moussa Sissoko: Was involved in a lot of his side's best moves in the first half, but did not fare as well after the break. He also had a decent chance late on that he put wide of the post, although it appeared that the flag had been raised anyway. (6/10)

Jack Colback: Put in a lot of work in front of the defence and battled well for his side throughout the afternoon. (6/10)

Attack

Remy Cabella: Looked lively in the first half, but his impact on the match faded badly after half time. It was no surprise to see him replaced late on by Ameobi. (5/10)

Ayoze Perez: Decent performance from the young Spaniard, who has been one of Newcastle's rare bright sparks this season. He was a handful for the QPR backline, but could not create any clear openings for himself. (7/10)

Emmanuel Riviere: The Frenchman scored his first league goal for the club, but it was a fortuitous effort, as he miskicked the ball and it looped up over Green and into the net. He failed to cause any more problems for the home side and was replaced by Cisse just past the hour mark. (6/10)

Substitutes

Papiss Cisse: Did not see too much of the ball after coming on and had a late chance to score well blocked by Hill. (6/10)

Rolando Aarons: Injected some much needed pace into the Newcastle attack, but offered little in the way of penetration. (6/10)

Sammy Ameobi: Failed to make a real impact after his arrivial. (6/10)
