Newcastle United secure a first win under John Carver as they ease to a 3-0 victory over Hull City in the Premier League.

Newcastle United have cruised to a 3-0 win over Hull City at the KC Stadium this afternoon, leaving the Tigers in the Premier League's relegation zone.

Tim Krul was tested early on in the Newcastle goal as Andrew Robertson attempted to mark his return from injury by slicing the ball in from a tight angle, but the keeper was ready.

Moussa Sissoko had the first chance of the afternoon for the Magpies, rounding a couple of defenders before unleashing a 20-yard effort, but the strike bobbled just wide.

John Carver's men started to look the more likely as half time approached, with Massadio Haidara crossing the ball in for Ayoze Perez, but he could not beat Allan McGregor.

The visitors did go ahead before half time, as Robertson had a pass intercepted by Remy Cabella, setting up the Frenchman for his first Premier League goal as he swept the ball into the bottom corner.

Ahmed Elmohamady claimed that he had levelled the scores in first-half stoppage time as he appeared to head in from a free kick, but the officials spotted that the midfielder had used his hand to punch it past Krul instead, ruling it out.

Newcastle did not need long after the restart to double their advantage as Sammy Ameobi netted just his second Premier League goal for the club, beating McGregor with a swerving, dipping effort from more than 30 yards out.

Fabricio Coloccini almost gifted Hull a goal a few minutes later though, as the Newcastle captain miscued an attempted clearance, nearly slicing the ball back into his own net, but he managed to recover the ball and boot it clear.

Sone Aluko came off the bench to try to help the home side find a way back into the match, but Krul prevented him quickly pulling a goal back, watching his 25-yard strike all the way before making the stop.

The Magpies extended their lead further inside the final 15 minutes as Yoan Gouffran stole the ball away from Hull in midfield before weaving through a couple of defenders to set up a low strike from the edge of the box.

Hull continued to push for a late consolation in the final 10 minutes, but Aluko headed straight at Krul, before Coloccini deflected a Gaston Ramirez effort wide.

Elmohamady tried to make amends for his first-half handball with a low finish in the final minutes, but Krul just held on to ensure that Newcastle finished with a clean sheet.

The result moves Newcastle into the top half of the table ahead of this afternoon's matches, while Hull remain 18th.
