Newcastle United are reportedly expected to make a decision over the future of manager Steve McClaren within the next 48 hours.
The 54-year-old has come under increasing pressure after failing to guide the Magpies away from their current lowly position of 19th place in the Premier League.
It had initially been suggested that McClaren would learn of his short-term fate at St James' Park some time on Tuesday afternoon but, according to BBC Sport, any decision has now been pushed back until Thursday at the latest.
Newcastle's board members met on Monday to discuss the Englishman's future, leading to many bookmakers slashing the odds on the ex-Derby County chief being shown the exit in the coming days.
United are in danger of suffering relegation to the second tier for the second time in seven seasons, having won just six of their 28 league fixtures this term.
