Fabricio Coloccini has reportedly told Newcastle United officials that he does not want to play another game for the club.
The Magpies captain recently admitted that he was eager for a move back to San Lorenzo in his native Argentina where his father is currently a youth-team coach.
Following negotiations, his former club announced on Wednesday that the 31-year-old would not be joining them this season.
The centre-back is now ready to leave St James' Park as soon as possible, according to The Independent.
Coloccini moved to Newcastle from Deportivo La Coruna in 2008 for around £11m.
