Isaac Hayden has reportedly asked to leave Newcastle United in order to seal a return to southern England for "exceptional family reasons".
The 23-year-old, who hails from the Essex city of Chelmsford, has been with the Tyneside club since moving from Arsenal in 2016.
Hayden established himself last season as a mainstay in Newcastle's Premier League starting lineup, having helped the Magpies to the Championship title in 2017.
According to The Mirror, however, the former England youth international has handed in a transfer request and has spoken face to face with Rafael Benitez regarding his decision.
The report states that Hayden was eager to emphasise his love for the club, its fans and the city, as well as his utmost respect for Benitez, and that United are aware of his situation.
Hayden has three years left on his Newcastle contract.
