Newcastle United have beaten bitter rivals Sunderland to the signing of PSV Eindhoven midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, according to a report.
The North East clubs were both interested in the 24-year-old following his standout performances for the Eredivisie champions last season.
The Magpies have edged out their rivals to close in on the signature of Wijnaldum for a fee in the region of £15m to become Steve McClaren's first signing since becoming manager of the club, reports The People.
Wijnaldum has been capped 15 times by the Netherlands.
