Sunderland are reportedly preparing to make a club-record £15m bid for PSV Eindhoven midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
Rivals Newcastle United are also interested in the player, but The Mirror claims that Sunderland are in pole position due to Dick Advocaat's Dutch connections.
Wijnaldum was voted Dutch Eredivisie player of the year, ahead of new Manchester United signing Memphis Depay.
The 24-year-old has made 19 appearances for the Netherlands national team, and was part of the 2014 World Cup squad.
