Newcastle United have reportedly emerged as contenders to sign Fenerbahce defender Martin Skrtel.
The 33-year-old has spent the last two seasons with the Turkish giants, with 69 appearances being made in all competitions.
However, according to Fotomac, Fenerbahce are keen to get the centre-back off their wage bill before the start of next season and that has resulted in the Slovakian international being offered out.
The report suggests that Newcastle have been targeted in regards to a potential move, with manager Rafael Benitez having signed the player during his time at Liverpool.
Any approach could depend on whether Newcastle are prepared to pay Skrtel's wages, with his agent having called off a possible move to Rangers due to the Scottish giants not being able to meet their demands.
