Newcastle United have reportedly agreed a deal with Leicester City to sign Islam Slimani on loan.
Doubts over a potential transfer emerged earlier today when Sky Sports News reported that the striker had suffered a thigh injury in training.
The Algerian is expected to be sidelined for around two weeks, but that has not stopped Newcastle from swooping in and agreeing a loan switch, reports the broadcaster.
West Ham United were initially thought to be leading the chase for a deal, but now it seems that the Magpies are in the driving seat.
Rafael Benitez is in need of a striker, given that his two main options of Joselu and Dwight Gayle have scored just seven goals between them.
Slimani has netted five times in 17 appearances in all competitions this season, but only two of his outings have been Premier League starts.
