Newcastle United are reportedly interested in bringing FC Twente striker Luuk de Jong to St James' Park in January.
The club, who have also been linked with Sochaux's Modibo Maiga, are believed to be targeting potential replacements for former Toon forward Andy Carroll after failing to secure anyone in the summer.
De Jong, 21, signed for the top Eredivisie outfit in 2009 under former manager Steve McClaren. He has since become one of the most-watched stars in the league.
With De Jong breaking into the Dutch national team earlier this season, Twente are understood to be expecting no less than £10m for the 6'2" forward, which could prove a stumbling block.
