Newcastle United will reportedly pull the plug on their £5m move for Wigan Athletic striker Arouna Kone.
The Magpies have matched the 29-year-old's release clause along with Everton, who are said to be his preferred choice.
According to the Newcastle Chronicle, the North-East outfit are now ready to take themselves out of the race to sign the Ivory Coast international.
Kone scored 13 goals for the Latics after joining from Levante last summer and now looks likely to seal a move to Goodison Park.
