Newcastle United are interested in signing Lille defender Sven Botman, according to a report.

The Magpies were very active during the most recent transfer window with the new owners financially supporting new manager Eddie Howe, and so far he has been able to guide them out of the relegation zone.

However, the Premier League outfit already have one eye on the summer market and how they can strengthen the club even further ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle are hoping to sign Botman from Lille at the end of the season, with the Magpies willing to spend up to £42m in order to bring the defender to St James' Park.

The club actually attempted to sign the 22-year-old late on in the January market; however, the French outfit were not willing to let him leave.

Newcastle United will be back in action on Sunday when they face Aston Villa in the Premier League. body check tags ::
