Newcastle United are in the early stages of talks over a potential move to sign PSV Eindhoven midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, according to a report.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Eredivisie champions this summer, with the Magpies and bitter rivals Sunderland said to be interested in a swoop for the Netherlands international.
Steve McClaren's men have moved into pole position to secure Wijnaldum's signature as the Black Cats opted to pull out of the race, although the transfer is still a long way from being complete, reports The Mirror.
The Netherlands international has made 152 appearances for PSV, scoring 56 goals, in his four years at the club.
