Crystal Palace have reportedly moved closer to the signing of Newcastle United winger Andros Townsend after it was claimed that he was due in London for a medical.
Townsend only moved to the North-East in January but after impressing during the second half of the campaign at a time when the Magpies were relegated to the Championship, he has been frequently linked with a return to the Premier League.
Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon have also held an interest in the England international, but according to Sky Sports News, Townsend is on the brink of signing a long-term deal with Palace after they met his release clause.
The fee is believed to be in the region of £13m and should the 24-year-old come through his medical, he could be confirmed as an Eagles player before the end of the week.
The move comes as Newcastle prepare to seal the signing of Palace attacker Dwight Gayle.
