Andre Villas-Boas has been named as Sven-Goran Eriksson's successor at Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG.
The former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss has been out of work since leaving Russian outfit Zenit St Petersburg at the end of last season in May.
Eriksson had been in charge of the Shanghai team for the past two years, but was sacked this week after finishing the league season in third place, 12 points behind champions Guangzhou Evergrande.
Villas-Boas, who was recently linked with the manager's job at Wolfsburg, is believed to have a agreed a salary of £11m a year, according to The Guardian.
The Chinese club released a statement, which read: "Andre Villas-Boas is the leading young manager in European football, with a huge amount of passion and coaching experience.
"We are convinced his arrival will enrich the tactical nous of the team, unearth the potential of our young talents and guide our club to scale new heights."
Villas-Boas told reporters: "It's a different challenge in my career. Our focus will be to put a team together that is stronger, that is able to compete in all competitions, but most of all, to bring joy to our fans with the Chinese championship next year."
The 39-year-old has also coached at Porto, where he won the league title and the Europa League.
