Brommapojkarna captain Pontus Segerstrom has died today at the age of 33 from a brain tumour.
The Swedish defender last played in the Bromma Boys' 3-0 defeat at the hands of Torino in a Europa League qualifier on July 31 this year.
On August 11, Segerstrom was diagnosed with an unspecified type of brain tumour, and despite undergoing treatment, he passed away this morning.
Torino paid tribute to the defender, publishing a statement on the official site which read: "President Urbano Cairo and Torino FC are saddened to hear about the premature loss of the Captain Pontus Segerstrom.
"Our prayers and thoughts are with his family at this sad moment. He was a special young man and will be sincerely missed."
Segerstrom began his career at Brommapojkarna in 1998 and went on to play for other clubs, including Odense BK and Stabaek, before returning to his alma mater in 2010.
