Gianfranco Zola has claimed that he is taking a "big gamble" by rejecting job offers from England and Italy to manage in Qatar.

The former Chelsea playmaker, 49, recently took charge of Qatar Stars League side Al Arabi on a two-year deal.

While insisting that he is well placed to enjoy success with his new club, Zola concedes that there is some risk involved.

"I know I'm taking a big gamble by leaving behind offers from Italy and England and taking up a coaching position in Qatar," he is quoted as saying by Doha Stadium Plus.

"It's a calculated risk. I believe in myself, my staff and the Arabi management. I'm not a total stranger to Qatar either. I've good knowledge of the Qatar Stars League and its teams. I've a feeling we'll do well."

Zola had been without a job since being sacked by Cagliari Calcio back in March.
