The FA names former Manchester United chief executive David Gill as their candidate to become the next British FIFA vice-president.

Former Manchester United chief executive David Gill has been named by the Football Association as their candidate to become the next British FIFA vice-president.

The 57-year-old, who is currently vice-chairman with the FA, joined UEFA's Executive Committee back in March 2013.

Following recent reforms within European football's governing body, UEFA members will vote in March for one of their vice-presidents from a list of candidates put forward by the four British FAs.

"This is a decision I have been thinking about for some time. Although I had initially wanted to focus on developing my relatively new role within UEFA, I believe there is an opportunity, if elected, to use the FIFA position to make a real difference while complementing that ongoing work," Gill told the FA's official website.

"Having sounded out many people across the game including fellow board members at Manchester United, The FA and UEFA, I would hope to make a positive contribution and use my candidacy to drive a debate for continued reform."

If elected to the FIFA ExCo, Gill would replace Northern Irishman Jim Boyce.
