Notts County striker Lee Hughes was held by police on Saturday night over allegations of sexual assault, according to The Sun.
The 35-year-old was taken away from a hotel in Croydon, where he was staying with teammates before their FA Cup game against Sutton United, after a woman accused him of putting his hand up her dress.
The hotel was playing host to County as well as several Christmas party groups. One partygoer told the newspaper: "Different groups started mixing together. There were some Notts County players and a couple of them were trying to talk to women. The next thing this woman started screaming.
"Things became quite heated and the police turned up. The officers spoke to Hughes in the foyer. He seemed to be getting quite irate and his manager Martin Allen was also pretty upset."
Hughes, who is married with two children, was bailed until January. He denies the allegations.
