Alan Pardew: 'Jose Enrique couldn't see future at Newcastle'

Alan Pardew believes that Jose Enrique couldn't see a future at Newcastle United.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has claimed that Liverpool's Jose Enrique was foolish to leave the club when he did.

Enrique left Newcastle last summer for £7m, stating that his ambition was to play for a bigger club and win silverware.

However, on his return to St James' Park, his side trail the Magpies by eight points. Pardew believes that the Spaniard should never have left and that he failed to see the "bigger picture" at Newcastle, as well as being 'scarred' by the club's past regimes.

"The scars of the previous regime were deep and he definitely wanted to go," said Pardew.

"Jonas [Gutierrez] and [Fabricio Colocinni] have signed since and perhaps they weren't secure at the time,

"Maybe Jose felt it was all falling apart but sometimes there is a bigger picture. Sometimes players can't see that. Jose couldn't see it."

Liverpool and Newcastle face each other on Sunday.
