FIFA president Sepp Blatter is under increasing pressure as reports suggest that UEFA are planning a breakaway tournament.

UEFA are reportedly planning to stage an independent major tournament every two years as they start to move away from FIFA.

World football's governing body has been hit with fresh allegations of corruption in the last week, as the FBI arrested multiple FIFA officials.

President Sepp Blatter still won an election last week and will serve for four more years, which has led to suggestions that UEFA will start to rebel.

The Daily Mail reports that UEFA members could boycott future World Cups and stage their own tournament, which would include an invitation to all of the top-ranked teams in world football.

The plan has reportedly been devised by Denmark's UEFA ExCo member Allan Hansen.

The idea has received warm encouragement as it was revealed that Blatter struggled to obtain votes in South America, which holds football super-powers Brazil and Argentina.

Hansen believes that a new tournament, with the backing of South America's giant teams, could take significant sponsorship, marketing and broadcasting deals away from FIFA.

UEFA have plans to hold an ExCo meeting this week.
