The Singapore football association has announced plans to introduce fines for the worst teams in the country's S League.
Prize money for the highest-placed teams has been increased, but the bottom clubs now face five-figure penalties, according to the TODAY newspaper.
The side that finishes bottom of the 13-team league will be hit with a 50,000 Singapore dollar (£25,400) fine, while the 12th-placed club will be ordered to pay S$30,000 (£15,300).
"We hope these - stiff penalties, not just a slap on the wrist - will inspire clubs to do well," said S League executive Lim Chin.
"We think the quantum of the penalties is painful enough to force teams to make an effort to do well, while not big enough to force clubs to sit out the league."
Tampines Rovers FC are the current S League champions and are on course to reclaim their crown this season.
