Auxerre coach Jean-Guy Wallemme has declared that Ligue 1 survival is in their own hands.
The Bourgogne club recorded a thumping 4-0 win over Brest, which dragged them further into the mire.
Goals from Edouard Cisse, Olivier Kapo, Alain Traore and Roy Contout sealed victory at the Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps to leave Auxerre three points from safety.
"There were only five games left before this one and so our margin of error has been reduced," said Wallemme. "The other results went in our favour but survival is dependent on ourselves."
There are eight teams within five points of the bottom-placed club.
