Nice coach Claude Puel has highlighted the opportunistic and clinical nature of opponents Lens after his side were defeated 2-0 at the Stade de la Licorne.
The visitors were undone thanks to some fine finishing from Wylan Cyprien and Adamo Coulibaly, with Puel also noting his side's missed chances in the game.
"The last game of the year is always a bit special because you want to do well. Lens were opportunist and clinical," said Puel, according to the official Ligue 1 website.
"We had more chances in the first half. It was difficult to create opportunities in the second half. We had some good moves, and we should have gone ahead. We didn't play enough down the left in the first half.
"Lens showed spontaneity and freshness, they play without worrying. You don't necessarily expect that. They're in a good position."
The defeat leaves Nice sitting in 12th position in the Ligue 1 table.
