Daniel Wass scored the only goal of the game as Evian TG climbed off the bottom of the table with a 1-0 win over Nice this evening.
Chances were difficult to come by early in the game as both sides struggled to find their rhythm in a match dominated by the two sets of defenders.
It should have been Nice who broke the deadlock in the first half when Jordan Amavi delivered an inviting cross to the back post, but the opportunity was wasted as Carlos Eduardo poked wide before Alassane Plea could add the finishing touch from a better position.
Eduardo would threaten again before the break by meeting Plea's dangerous ball with a header which drifted over the crossbar.
Evian came close to breaking the deadlock in fortuitous circumstances early in the second half when Cedric Barbosa's delivery from a free kick threatened to curl in at the back post before Mouez Hassan pushed the ball wide.
Hassan was unable to prevent the hosts from taking the lead through a set piece in the 76th minute though, as Wass handed his side a vital lead from 25 yards by picking out the top corner with his free kick.
Nice piled the pressure on in the closing stages, but Evian limited the chances on offer to collect all three points.
