Saint-Etienne have beaten Nice in their Ligue 1 match away from home.
The first chance fell to Nice after good build-up from Alexy Bosetti allowed Jeremy Pied to get a shot away, but Stephane Ruffier was equal to it.
A break from Saint-Etienne saw Romain Hamouma win the ball and play a pass to free Mevlut Erding. He got his shot away, but Lucas Veronese made the save.
The opening goal came soon after, however. Nemanja Pejcinovic played the ball back to Veronese but the goalkeeper failed to control it, which allowed Erding to tap in.
Thimothee Kolodzieczak rose highest in the penalty area, but headed wide as Nice searched for a way back into the match.
The away side had two good chances to extend their lead after the break. First, Erding found himself free and tried to slot the ball into the bottom corner, but Veronese pushed it wide. Then Veronese got a hand to Erding's shot which was heading for the corner.
Nice began to put pressure on their opponents, with Kolodzieczak clipping a ball into the box where Pied dived in with a header, but it went just wide.
Franck Tabanou was then unmarked at the far post for the away side, but he side-footed wide of an open goal.
